Great Cities to Visit in Croatia

Over the past few years, more and more people have been discovering what a wonderful vacation destination Croatia can be. From the coast to the mountains to the ancient cities, there is something appealing for everyone. Some of the most popular vacation areas in the country are the cities of Croatia - Rijeka, Zagreb (the capital), Dubrovnik, and Split.

Rijeka

Rijeka is one of the main seaports in Croatia and it located on Kvarner Bay. It is the third largest city in Croatia. It was built well over a thousand years ago, and has a rich, deep history. Any visitor to the city will find himself or herself overwhelmed with things to do. Visit the Croatian National Theater, the Natural History Museum, or take a walk to the beach. You can also book adventure tours or visit one of the nearby nature parks.

Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia, as well as the largest city. It is filled with wonderful restaurants and hotels, as well as a number of great sights, such as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Zagreb City Museum, and the Ethnological Museum. You will also find a number of shops in the city as well so that you can get some unique souvenirs to take home with you.

Split

Split is the second largest city in Croatia, and it is one of the most popular among vacationers. This is a very old city, located on the eastern shore of the Adriatic. It was actually founded as a Greek Colony. Perhaps the most famous tourist spot in this city is the Palace of Diocletian, which as constructed more than 1700 years ago. The Archeological Museum, the Marjan Forest Park, and the Mestrovic Gallery are also great spots to visit.

Dubrovnik

The famous walled city of Dubrovnik is the southernmost city in Croatia. The walls around the city date back to the 13th century, and a walk through the Old Town section of the city can actually make one feel as though he or she has stepped back in time. Besides touring the City Walls and looking at the watchtowers, one can visit Rector’s Palace or even spend the day relaxing at the beach.
