Hotels
news
Some of the well
known international hotel chains have started to take a serious
interest in Croatia, taking over the existing old hotels, or
building new ones. Croatia still has only a small number of 4 and
5-star hotels, which presents potentially good investment
opportunity for international hotel chains. After the mid 90s war,
many of the then first-class hotels were left empty and unattended.
These properties now offer excellent potential for would-be
hoteliers.
Boutique hotels
Another growing area is that of private, small
hotels and village tourism. Some of the enterprising locals, as
well as foreigners who have moved to Croatia and bought a property,
are starting to convert their properties into small or
boutique hotels. The small boutique hotels are very popular in
Europe, in particular in Austria, Germany and Italy, where there
are have hundreds of such hotels.
Croatia is still in the early stages of this type
of hospitality industry with only a couple of hundred of small
hotels being available. But over the ensuing years it's likely that
this type of tourist accommodation will become more widespread, not
only along the Croatian coastline, but also in Croatian
hinterland.
Over the next 3 years the local tourism industry
plans to double the current rooms capacity. These plans include
building 300 new tourist accommodation objects, including private
houses, camps, apartments and 4 and 5 star hotels. The overall
emphasis will be on adding higher quality tourism accommodation,
which is still well below the potential demand.
